Anatomy of the disc granulator: Understanding the components for high-efficiency granulation

The disc granulator is a classic piece of equipment for fertilizer granulation. Despite its simple structure, it is a comprehensive and fully functional machine. While it may appear to consist solely of a single rotating disc, it actually relies on the synergistic operation of five core components, making it the preferred choice for granulating both organic and inorganic fertilizers.

The granulating disc serves as the core molding component. Featuring an inclined design, its inner wall is treated to be wear-resistant and non-slip. Both the inclination angle and rotation speed are flexibly adjustable, allowing for direct control over the size and roundness of the granules; it acts as the central medium where materials tumble, bond, and form into granules.

The transmission system provides power to the entire machine. Comprising a motor and a reducer, it delivers stable torque output and regulates rotation speed, thereby preventing material splash-out or sluggish granulation, and ensuring the disc operates at a uniform velocity.

The frame support structure serves a crucial load-bearing and stabilizing function. Constructed from thickened structural profiles, it supports the combined weight of the disc and the materials. Integrated with an angle adjustment mechanism, it allows for precise, flexible fine-tuning of the disc’s tilt angle, effectively eliminating any operational wobbling or misalignment.

The scraper assembly is key to preventing blockages. Divided into a bottom scraper and a side scraper, it operates in close contact with the inner wall of the disc to clear away adhering materials, thereby preventing accumulation and caking, averting disc-clogging faults, and ensuring a continuous and smooth granulation process.

The feeding and spraying assembly is responsible for material delivery and conditioning. While conveying materials in a directed manner, it precisely sprays water or binding agents to regulate the material’s moisture content and viscosity, thereby laying the essential foundation for successful granulation.
