The placement of a chain fertilizer crusher within an NPK fertilizer production line directly influences crushing efficiency, weighing accuracy, and dust control.
At the raw material intake: Raw materials such as urea, monoammonium phosphate (MAP), and potassium chloride are highly prone to moisture absorption and caking during storage and transport. If large lumps enter the dosing scales, weighing accuracy is severely compromised. Placing a chain fertilizer crusher between the raw material storage silos and the dosing bins—breaking down caked material to the required particle size—serves as a critical first checkpoint for the weighing process. In this location, the material is dry and flows well, ensuring a stable crushing load and manageable wear on the chain hammers.
Within the recycle loop: The granulation and screening process generates a significant amount of off-spec particles and recycled material. Feeding these directly back into the granulator can hinder granule formation due to their excessive size. Positioning a chain crusher between the screening unit and the fertilizer granulator—specifically to process this recycled material—creates a “screening–crushing–granulation” closed loop, which significantly boosts the yield of finished product.
For mixed powder prior to granulation: Exercise caution. At this stage, the moisture content of the powder mix is already close to the requirements for granulation. The crushing process generates heat and dust, which can cause the material to absorb moisture and deteriorate the workshop environment. If a crusher must be placed here, it should be equipped with dust collection and enclosed conveying systems, and the crushing intensity should be kept moderate.
Not recommended after the drying stage: Following the drying process, granules are hot and highly brittle; impact-based crushing would produce a large volume of fine dust, thereby increasing the amount of material that must be recycled. This stage is better suited for cooling and screening.
Ultimately, the optimal positions for a chain fertilizer crusher are at the “raw material intake” and within the “recycle loop.” The former safeguards weighing accuracy, while the latter ensures effective granulation. Securing these two points provides a solid foundation for the stability and yield of the entire production line.
